Bankroll — Privacy Policy

Bankroll ("the app," "we," "us") is a tool that helps people stop sports betting and gambling. It is operated by Nicholas Kitchen. We take your privacy seriously — the people who use Bankroll are trusting us with sensitive information about a hard part of their lives. This policy explains what we collect, why, who it is shared with, and the control you have over it.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to function:

Account information — the email address you sign up with (or, if you use Sign in with Apple, the email Apple provides, which may be a private relay address).
Onboarding answers — your responses to the setup questions: typical weekly loss, self-reported behaviors, what gambling has affected, your biggest trigger, your goal, and your stated reasons for quitting.
Recovery activity — your streak start date, daily task and habit completions, journal entries (urges, triggers, notes, relapses you choose to log), and daily check-ins (mood, urge intensity, hours of sleep, optional notes).
Counselor messages — the messages you send to the in-app AI counselor ("Vig") and its responses.
Purchase information — whether you hold an active subscription. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your card details.

We do not collect your real name, your location, your contacts, your advertising identifier, or any browsing activity outside the app. The app contains no advertising and no third-party advertising trackers.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to record which setup screens you reach, so we can find and fix the places where the app is confusing. These events record the screen name and a summary of your answers — how many of the three self-assessment statements you agreed with, how many life areas you selected, and which weekly-loss range you chose if you picked one instead of typing a figure. They never include the free text you write. If you subscribe, the event records the plan and its price. Collection of your advertising identifier is switched off.

2. How your information is used

To create and maintain your account.
To calculate and display your streak, money-saved estimate, vault level, and milestones.
To generate responses from the AI counselor.
To show you an anonymized community activity feed and leaderboard (see Section 4).
To send you local reminder notifications at the high-risk times you configure. These are scheduled on your device — we do not send push notifications from a server.
To manage your subscription status.

3. Third-party services

Bankroll relies on a small number of service providers. Each receives only the data needed for its function:

Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Analytics) — stores your account, recovery activity, and onboarding answers, and runs the server function that relays counselor messages. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Anthropic — your chat messages are sent to Anthropic to generate responses. Anthropic does not use API messages to train its models. Messages are deleted from Anthropic's servers within 30 days per their data retention policy. Subject to Anthropic's privacy and data-usage terms.
RevenueCat — manages subscription and purchase status. Receives an anonymized identifier and purchase events.
Apple — processes all payments through the App Store and provides Sign in with Apple. We never receive your payment details.

4. Community features

The Community tab shows an activity feed and a leaderboard. These are built to protect your identity:

Activity feed events ("Someone finished their morning routine!") contain no user identity — only an event type, a timestamp, and a level number.
Leaderboard entries show an anonymized name (e.g. "Player ABC"), your current streak, and your level. Your email and personal information are never shown to other users.

5. Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and your core profile data. If you have trouble deleting your account in-app, email us (see Section 10) and we will delete it for you.

Retention timeline after you delete your account:

Most data is deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
Firebase audit logs may be retained for up to 90 days.
Encrypted backups may persist for up to 180 days before rotation.

6. Security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase with access rules that restrict each account's records to that account. Counselor message relaying is done over an authenticated, encrypted connection. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we use industry-standard safeguards.

If you enable App Lock, your PIN is stored only on this device in encrypted Keychain storage and is never transmitted to our servers.

7. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, and restrict processing of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at nick@resgllc.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. California privacy (CCPA)

Bankroll does not sell personal data. California residents may request access to, or deletion of, their personal information by contacting nick@resgllc.com.

9. Children

Bankroll is intended for people dealing with gambling and is rated 16+. It is not directed to anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
